Internal Title: Senior Scientist I/II

About the role:
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated scientist who is passionate about joining an organization that enables the discovery of new oncology drugs. Our group supports project teams by developing, optimizing and executing in vitro cell-based assays to identify promising low molecular weight drug candidates and elucidate their mechanism of action as well as investigates in-depth target biology to advance drug discovery programs.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lab based associate will design and execute sophisticated cell-based assays and biology experiments that inform drug discovery and/or an in-depth understanding of a small molecule’s mechanism of action.
  • Troubleshoot various cell-based assays in low and high content modalities, multi-well formats (96w, 384w) and perform data analysis on small to medium scale datasets using standard analysis tools.
  • Maintain high standards for data quality and reproducibility supported by timely documentation of experiments in lab notebook
  • Work in a manner that is independent in thought, results-driven, flexible and able to multi-task.
  • Interact with people of varying scientific backgrounds, approaches and skill sets in a matrixed work environment, so the applicant must be a strong, proactive communicator with excellent team skills and a collaborative spirit.
  • Work with automation / liquid handling platforms in cancer biology

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $92,800 - $139,200 / year for the Senior Scientist I and $102,400 - $153,600 / year for the Senior Scientist II. While salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Essential Requirements:

  • This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will not require travel as defined by the business (domestic and/or international).
  • BS/MS Degree in a biology or biochemistry-related field
  • 5+ years of Biology/Biochemistry bench work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and present data in a clear manner and use data to generate new hypotheses
  • Hands-on experience with mechanistic cell biology and cellular assay development & execution
  • Highly self-motivated, collaborative team worker with exceptional organizational skills and curiosity to expand and diversify skillsets

Desirable Requirements:

  • Industry experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in oncology
  • Familiarity with dose response curve fitting software programs and data visualization and presentation software (particularly Spotfire, Graphpad Prism, MS Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Hands-on experience with automation and cell imaging equipment
