Summary

As a Translational Medicine (TM) Academy fellow in Translational Data Sciences in Preclinical Safety, you will join Novartis’ Translational Medicine Unit for a 2 year period to help us to unleash the power of data science to enhance drug discovery and development.
TM plays a pivotal role in bringing innovative medicines to patients, by building on research advances to develop new therapies, and bridging drug discovery and clinical application.

About the Role

As a Translational Medicine (TM) Academy fellow in Translational Data Sciences in Preclinical Safety, you will join Novartis’ Translational Medicine Unit for a 2 year period to help us to unleash the power of data science to enhance drug discovery and development.
TM plays a pivotal role in bringing innovative medicines to patients, by building on research advances to develop new therapies, and bridging drug discovery and clinical application.

Duration of program: 24 months 
Program start: September 2025

Job description:

You are a passionate and curious data scientist, eager to bring creative solutions and novel perspectives to biology’s most daunting challenges and to join our journey to reimagine medicine. Working alongside dedicated physicians and scientists, our data scientists provide analytical insights that drive translational medicine success.

Through the TM Academy, you will gain valuable training and experience within an international multi-cultural Biomedical Research environment. In parallel to your Academy learning, your core focus will be to contribute to the Preclinical Safety group within Translational Medicine, working in one or more of our global inter-disciplinary teams including Translational Toxicology, Mechanistic & Predictive Safety, Pathology and Therapeutic Area Safety Assessment. Your contributions will support project teams throughout the Research & Development lifecycle spanning a diverse range of disease areas and therapeutic modalities.

TM Academy is designed for individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences:

  • Career starters: recent University degree graduate within the past 2 years (e.g. e.g. MSc or PhD or equivalent experience in quantitative field including computational sciences, physics, mathematics, bioengineering, economics, computational biology, machine learning, data science)
  • Career changers: professionals with experience from a different field
  • Career relaunches: professionals wanting to return to work after a career break

During the TM Academy you will have the opportunity to:

  • Be trained and onboarded by experts
  • Embark on a progressive, blended and flexible learning experience covering conceptual, theoretical and experiential techniques
  • Gain hands-on experience by contributing to and supporting a range of translational medicine activities
  • Broaden your professional horizon by doing a deep dive within one of the TM groups aligned with your interests and based on opportunities

Role requirements:

  • interest in translational sciences including drug safety, pharmacokinetics and biomarkers
  • university degree (e.g. MSc or PhD or equivalent experience in quantitative field including computational sciences, physics, bioengineering, mathematics, economics, computational biology, machine learning, data science)
  • business-level English; oral & written
  • good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work in a team and independently, managing multiple priorities with support
  • strong data science skills including machine learning and statistical techniques
