The Novartis Strategy & Growth team is seeking a new Therapeutic Area Strategy Director, responsible for delivery of strategic business projects within the Immunology TA for Novartis Group, the CEO and the Executive Committee (ECN).

Location: this role can be based out of Cambridge, MA or East Hanover, NJ US.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop subject matter expertise in 1-2 key immunology domains
  • Refine and coordinate forecasting activities for immunology early pipeline and BD&L activities
  • Build network of subject matter experts within and outside the NVS organization
  • Build lasting strategic capabilities as part of each project to enable local teams to continue to deliver on project objectives going forward
  • Acts as sparring partner for leaders within Strategy & Growth (S&G) and other parts of Novartis.
  • Leads and independently owns small portfolio of strategy projects prioritized by S&G and the Executive Committee including scoping, content creation and stakeholder management
  • Actively contribute to Global /Unit Strategic Planning process

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree (PhD, MD or other advanced degree) or equivalent experience in life science/healthcare; MBA or investment banking/investment management/consulting or equivalent experience highly desirable
  • At minimum 5+ years of biopharma-related experience (strategy, finance, R&D, commercial)
  • Strong financial modelling and forecasting skills
  • In-depth knowledge (or track record to acquire required TA expertise effectively and rapidly) of disease areas within Immunology
  • Substantial experience evaluating new product opportunities (through M&A, BD&L and internal research programs)
  • Experience of strategy development and asset shaping early in lifecycle (any functional perspective).
  • Fluency in English required (spoken and written). Effective and persuasive communicator with strong presentation, communication (both written and verbal), influencing and negotiation skills
  • Highly agile having the capacity to support a number of strategic priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, to be determined based on business needs  

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $185,500.00 - $344,00.00 USD per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
